You are cordially invited to the film screening of Hola Mahalla – The Forgotten Festival.
Hola Mahalla is a little known festival celebrated in India. Dubbed the Sikh Olympics, this 45 minute documentary focuses on the festival that has been running since the 17th century, showcasing skills such as swordsmanship and daring horse stunts that are with an ever decreasing number of nomadic Sikhs.
Bradford-based filmmaker and photographer Darshan Singh is the Director Producer of this documentary. Darshan travelled to and from Anandpur in India over a period of two years to explore why this unique festival has not migrated overseas as well as other Sikh festivals have. Darshan wanted to showcase the festival to both Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike and revive this once Forgotten Festival rarely experienced outside of India.
The showing of the film will be followed by a Q&A with the Director/Producer chaired by Jasvir Singh, Chair of City Sikhs.
